Learn how to use the natural world as a starting point for painting abstractly. Explore several different approaches with watercolor and/or acrylic. Experiment with the natural properties of paint, paper and water to create a personal path to abstraction.

ANSWER TO MYSTERY TECHNIQUE #13: I pressed dried leaves into wet watercolor paint and then covered the painting with vinyl. After several days, the water evaporated; when I removed the leaves, the imprint of their veins remained.

I used a jeweler’s saw to slice the walnut and a dremel to cut the bark pattern. Thanks to Sheila for showing me how to use the saw, thank to Pat for the walnut ink and thanks to Dolph for cutting the hole in the center!
