One of my tunnel books, Backyard Food Chain, was just accepted into a show in Denver that opens April 19 at the Abecedarian Gallery; there will also be a print catalog. My piece features 2 spicebush swallowtail caterpillars feasting on sassafras leaves. In the background, a nuthatch creeps down a branch while looking for a different kind of meal. Here it is:

ANSWER TO MYSTERY TECHNIQUE #9: Melted wax was applied to the paper with various tools; then liquid color was added. After more wax was applied, the paper was crumbled before another layer of color was applied. An iron was used to remelt the wax and transfer it to other paper.
