ANSWER TO MYSTERY TECHNIQUE #42: This was done on Claybord, which is a wood panel coated with a smooth white clay ground. I began with thin lines of acrylic medium. After they dried, I applied multiple layers of diluted acrylic ink, sometimes tilting the panel, spraying it with water or partially blotting the wet paint with a paper towel. ANSWER TO MYSTERY TECHNIQUE #41: I began by coating Arches Cover with diluted sizing. After it dried, I used a large brush to draw the outline of a shape with water; I then added enough water to create a puddle on the surface, which caused the paper to form hills and valleys. Next I added liquid watercolor. The edges of the puddled paint dried multiple times, forming a series of lines.
