ANSWER TO MYSTERY TECHNIQUE #40: This is another example of the dramatic effects possible when large amounts of Granulation Fluid and water are mixed with Hydrus Watercolors on hot press watercolor paper. I tilted the paper to make the fluid mixture run, and a number of these rivulets appeared; they remind me of aerial views of rivers.

ANSWER TO MYSTERY TECHNIQUE #39: This shows some of the amazing effects possible when you combine acrylic ink and water on Yupo, a synthetic paper. I began by wetting the surface and applying a mix of diluted acrylic inks; I then used a spray bottle filled with water to encourage this turbulent mix of runs, rivulets and spots.

ANSWER TO MYSTERY TECHNIQUE #38: This is a preview of a new wall sculpture. I began by making some linear marks with diluted white acrylic ink on 300 lb. hot press watercolor paper. After this layer dried, I wet the paper and mixed Granulation Medium with various granulating watercolors, including Daniel Smith’s Sodalite Genuine, my favorite of their PRIMATEK series. The dark shape is a cutout that reveals part of the layer underneath.
